Dome of the Rock / Masjid Al-Aqsa

Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif is a sacred area in Jerusalem of immense religious importance to all Muslims and includes all of its 144 dunums (144,000 m2) (“the Sacred Compound”). The area includes the Qibli Mosque of Al Aqsa, the Mosque of the Dome of the Rock, all of the buildings, walls, courtyards, and environs above and beneath the ground. It also includes Waqf properties connected to Al Masjid Al Aqsa and its pilgrims.

Since 1967, when Israel illegally occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the Israeli Occupation Authorities have frequently committed egregious violations against Jerusalem’s Holy Sites, including Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif. The ancient Magharbeh Quarter was demolished to create what is now called the “Western Wall Plaza”. In more recent times, Israeli authorities destroyed one of the ancient walkways leading into the sacred compound (the Magharbeh Gate Pathway) and have carried out large underground excavations which have threatened to destroy the structures above. Whilst this conduct has been met with widespread condemnation by organisations including UNESCO, the actions of the Israeli authorities continue unabated. Terrible loss of life and violence has resulted from these actions, thereby further leading away from the potential for peace and security. It has also further led to widening the gap between people who would otherwise have much in common.

This website has been created in order to transparently document the violations mentioned above and the effects they have on the sanctity and integrity of Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

The establishment of this website is part of the ongoing efforts by the Hashemite Fund for the Restoration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock to protect and preserve Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif. It is pursuant to His Majesty King Abdullah II's custodianship of Jerusalem's Muslim and Christian Holy Sites which is an extension of the Hashemite Kings' history of custodianship and conservation of Jerusalem's Holy Sites over the last 100 years. Whilst there is no doubt that this issue generates much emotion, the aim of this site is primarily to share facts.
